I have had a very hectic Easter it started with UKWA cup1. It was a very light wind event yet warm as well, I won this event overall only loosing one race to James Bulson who sailed very well. Then I had 4 days training in Cornwall with Ali Master coaching with Ethan Moody and myself. It was really good fun with mixed conditions wind and warmth. Next stop was the youth nationals in Hayling island which was a non coached event, we stayed in the camper van on a very nice campsite. The event was 5 days long with tricky conditions concerning the tide, sand banks and wind. On the fourth day we all met Princess Ann who came to watch some of the racing and have a chat. Last 2 days were light winds and tough conditions I worked very hard and managed to win the event, we then travelled straight to Weymouth ready to meet at 9 am the next morning.
Easter camp was a fun camp and was mainly good apart from the lunches. I only did two of the days as i had to go to Martinigues for the French nationals but i made my time at Easter camp fun but relaxing.
I left in the Van with Ali and Lachlan to go to matinigues it took a long time to get there but when we arrived it was 40 knots and sunshine. We didn’t go out that day and decided to rest instead. we had 2 days of training before the event started. Everyday was sunny through the training and racing, in the racing days we had some marginal races and some windier ones. I was looked after by the Basset family and stayed in the van overnight. The racing was competitive and the fleet was strong, Overall I came 8th which was ok but i felt i could have done better. The journey back was long and having school the next day was tough, but I did managed to recover in time for the following UKWA Inland event at Whitwell.
Whitwell was a really fun event, we did 3 races in the morning then it was time for the Rutland Marathon, all fleets lined up for the start I had a good start and I managed to keep up with the RSX fleet it took me 1 hr 59 mins the event raised a lot of money which was really good.
We had a fun BBQ in the evening but we were all quite tired so chilled out in the camper.
Sunday was really windy and gusty but great fun, we had four races over the day on the last race I managed to get a splinter from an RSX fin so unfortunately I was late for the start but did manage to catch up to second place. I learnt a lot and also know what to work on.
Overall I won the 7.8 fleet and the 7.8 marathon and really enjoyed the whole weekend.
I have a few weeks off now until the next event which is at Christchurch at the end of May.
