Two days before the tasar nationals i decided it would be a good idea if I got some practice in a boat as i hadn’t sailed for over two years. I helmed the boat and had Paddy (Porthpean sailing club Commodor) as crew, taking me through everything i needed to know ready for the event.
Ollie Croft was my crew who i was really excited to sail with. The first day of racing didn’t start off so well because on the way to the race course our haliard broke and we had to sail back in to fix it. It was a sunny day with 14 -18 knots of wind which for us was being 20 kilos under weight was quite windy. We managed to make it to the start line for the first race and despite being a few minutes late for the start we managed to gain some places and be a respectable way from being last. The next two races went alright but we were struggling to keep the boat flat without the necessary weight on the side of the the boat , however we were a long way from last place and sailing well.
Day 2: I was looking forward to this day because it was supposed to be light winds and we would do very well in those conditions. Unfortunately it was a lot windier than the forecast. Despite this we did very well and got 4 top twenty results.
On the final day it was too wavy to go out but luckily we had done enough races in the other days. Overall Ollie and i came 19th and i really enjoyed the racing. Now i am preparing for the windsurfing national championship at Grafham water.
